Government (including school) is an important sector of the local economy because it brings tax revenues from the state and federal levels into the community. Most of Lemhi Countys retail businesses are in and around the incorporated cities of Leadore and Salmon. Citizens view the most prominent employers in the county as the government, the beam plant (QB Quality Laminators), the hospital and related health care organizations, tourism, agriculture, and construction. The county also houses cottage industries throughout their jurisdiction with a growing number of e-commerce and consulting business run from residences.
