INL leverages national and international science and technology (S&T) infrastructure and expertise through strategic partnerships with national and international laboratories, universities, and private industry to accelerate the pace of innovation and deployment. Such collaboration also helps INL advance nationally relevant energy research. Sustaining U.S. nuclear energy fleet Dominion Energy is considering significant instrumentation and control room modernization for license renewal efforts at its North Anna and Surry nuclear power plants in Virginia. The company aims to maximize the operational and cost-saving benefits that new digital technologies can offer. Representatives visited INL in August for a demonstration of the laboratory’s plant modernization technologies and methodologies. At an October meeting in Virginia, INL presented ideas on a modernized instrumentation and control architecture, as well as a modernized control room.
