INL’s work will help SAE International (formerly the Society of Automotive Engineers) develop guidelines to ensure that ground assemblies and vehicle assemblies from different manufacturers work together seamlessly. INL researchers developed a testing system to measure factors such as electromagnetic field strength, power quality and power efficiency. Six different manufacturers— Toyota, Nissan, WiTricity, Jaguar Land Rover and Qualcomm and one other company—participated in the fall 2016 round of tests. Leadership NATIONAL Coordinating national energy solutions INL is a multiprogram national lab that supports deployment of new energy solutions and critical infrastructure protection. The lab’s isolated site, test bed infrastructure and applied science focus are ideal for experimentation, demonstrations and assessments that help protect the nation’s resources and security. At INL’s ElectricVehicle Infrastructure Laboratory, researchers have developed a testing system to measure the safety and performance of wireless charging systems for electric vehicles.
